Reporting to: The Master
Objective: To operate and maintain the radio equipment for communication with shore and other ships in an efficient condition and to ensure, that all communications to and from the ship are planned and executed in a timely and cost effective manner, and that all vessel electronic equipment is maintained and repaired.
Responsibilities:
The GMDSS Officer is responsible for:

Implementing of Company's SMS procedures as regards all communications to and from the vessel.
Applying safe working practices while carrying out orders by senior Officers.
Ensuring efficient and timely maintenance of all communication and navigational equipment (radars, ARPA, batteries, emergency radio batteries etc.) along with appropriate keeping of records, spare parts and tools.
Carrying out watch-keeping duties and taking appropriate actions in conformity with all relevant regulations and operational needs.
Receiving and transmitting Radio Navigational Warnings to and from Coastal stations.
Ensuring advanced ordering of necessary publications and maintaining proper standards for all aspects of his job onboard Company vessels.
Reviewing equipment, spare parts inventory, initiating requests for supplies when necessary.
Keeping GMDSS log book.
Exercising all the duties and responsibilities, as described in all Radio Regulations.
Following all duties which are described in the Master's standing orders.
Following company's circulars.
Assisting in the ISM documentation

Minimum of year(s) previous work experience required
shipboard exprerience not required.
Basic STCW Certificates not required.
Prefered gender -
No seaman discharge book needed
